Danfoss: Pressure transmitters now with true switch capability and open collector

In 2007, Danfoss introduced the MBS1300 and 1350, a series of pressure transmitters with a dual output, instead of just one analogue output signal. The mobile hydraulic market showed a strong interest, and based on feedback from key customers, an open collector switch output with a direct connection to ground and a maximum load of 150 mA is now available.

Total cost of ownership important
For mobile hydraulic manufacturers, total cost of ownership is becoming increasingly important. Compared to an open collector switch, a mechanical switch has only two stages, open or closed. But after a certain number of operations, leakage, inaccuracy or unreliable electrical switch performance are often experienced.
However, when using a Danfoss pressure transmitter with dual output functionality, a variable signal and a switch function are available. With a load opportunity of up to 150 mA, the Danfoss pressure transmitter can even drive relays directly to activate hydraulic valves, pumps, or warning lights. Furthermore, Danfoss pressure transmitters have excellent long term stability with almost zero drifts. And regardless of how many switch functions are made with the open collector, it’s an electronic switch, so there is no mechanical wear at all.
Available in different variations of pressure and electrical connectors, the MBS1300 and the MBS1350 (including a restrictor) can replace most mechanical switches used in hydraulic processes. And thanks to the open collector’s direct reference to ground, and almost 0 – zero resistance – the low level signal is in the mV range.
