02-Aug-2010

Advantech, the leading global ePlatform services provider, is happy to announce the continued evolution of its TREK series with the TREK-743R-A1E mobile data terminal, designed to support industrial, in-vehicle computing needs. The TREK-743R-A1E series is well-suited to fit a variety of vertical in-vehicle markets such as long haul trucking, taxis and buses, emergency vehicles, or mining and harbor management.

TREK-743R-A1E is a compact, rugged AMD LX800 processor-based, vehicle mount computerdesigned to provide efficient data capture and real-time communications. The latest generation has new features such as 3.5G WWAN communications, enhanced GPS, and ISO-certified power features designed for the most efficient use in vehicles with transient power conditions.

Power Ratings MeetISO and SAE Specifications and Operate In a Variety of Vehicles
Transient power conditions found in vehicles can wreak havoc with most computer systems. Not so with TREK-743R-A1E. It is designed to operate from a range of 9 volts to 36 volts, and meets ISO-7637, SAE-J1455, and SAE-J113 specifications. The support for a range of voltages allows TREK-743R-A1E to fit a variety of vehicle platforms, and the industry ratings ensure TREK has been tested to provide robust and continuous operationin unpredictable power situations. The new power design includes a special power filter board, designed specifically for in-vehicle use. Power management firmware has been included in the design for on/off delay settings and ignition control.

Advanced WWAN Support with Flexible Communication Options
TREK-743R-A1E is equipped to support multi-band, 3.5G Sierra RF, GPRS communications, as well as modules for CDMA and HSDPA through a built-in miniPCIe slot. This flexibility allows the TREK to operate under a variety of cellular topologies. Faster wireless telecommunications ensure real-time availability of voice and data delivered between vehicles in the field, and central dispatch offices. Depending on which WWAN module is installed, TREK-743R-A1E can achieve data throughput rates of 7.2 Mbps, and it operates comfortably in environments as diverse as an underground mine shaft, to a vehicle cab in the hot sun, with a temperature range rating from -20 °C to 60 °C.

Improved GPS Communications Bring Better Performance to TREK
The new GPS module designed into TREK-743R-A1E achieves lightning fast initial connectivity, as the system can simultaneously track up to 50 satellites. The u-Blox-based module has advanced TREK’s GPS capabilities with quicker starts, higher altitude support and a greater degree of accuracy, providing better vehicle location, navigation and route information.

TREK-743R-A1E represents Advantech’s continuing support for the In-vehicle market. With improved communication support for wireless, and GPS, as well as an industry-certified power management design, the new TREK series will continue its exemplary performance in vehicle fleets of every type. The upgrade of TREK-743R-A1E aims to provide an even higher quality version of this bestseller, and the migration path is intended to be painless (there is no need to change software or access point infrastructure). The TREK-743R-A1E is available now, and several newer models will be rolled out in the near future.
