It is not just large companies that need a secure location for their data centres. These days, even small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are dependent on reliable IT processes and the secure accommodation of business-critical data. In such cases, however, the available office space is often limited. In the age of virtualisation and cloud computing, large data centres are often unnecessary in any case. Cue the new compact data centre from Rittal, the "Basic Safe Compact".

Measuring just under 1.70 m high, 80 cm wide by 1.30 m deep with climate control, the Basic Safe Compact from Rittal is not much bigger than an office cupboard. This combination of server enclosure and safe offers 15 U in a 482.6 mm (19") format with very compact dimensions. This is usually more than adequate for SMEs, whose IT requirements tend to be on a manageable scale. The safe is so mobile that it can easily be relocated at a later date. Unlike building an extension, therefore, this option provides investment protection for the future. Designed as a two-door system, the standard version of the safe offers ease of maintenance and servicing for the IT components within.

Even in the smallest compact data centre, the security and protection of the sensitive electronics is a top priority. The Basic Safe Compact reliably protects against dust, water, humidity and flue gases. It boasts a fire protection category of F90, tested burglary protection up to resistance category II, and protection from dust and hosed water to IP 55. Testing of all the aforementioned product properties was carried out by an independent institute, who system-tested the entire object. The Basic Safe also features two tested cable duct systems for the insertion of data and power supply cables. This ensures that servers, switches and sensitive personal data - such as patient files at a doctor's surgery or client accounts at an accountant's office - are securely housed.
 

The basic version of the safe is supplied with a climate control output of 2.4 KW. Weight is a key consideration in normal office environments: With an empty weight of 360 kg, the Basic Safe Compact is even suitable for floors with a limited load-bearing capacity.
 

Optional extras

In addition to the climate control supplied as standard, the Basic Safe Compact can also be upgraded ex works. The early fire detection system EFD Plus, in combination with the gas-based fire alarm and extinguisher system DET-AC Plus, offers additional protection against fire damage to the interior. The uninterruptible power supply PMC 12 can likewise be housed directly in the safe. The system can also be equipped with the CMC-TC monitoring solution from Rittal, which automatically monitors the correct functioning, temperature and energy consumption of all components. The administrator can control the status of the plant remotely via CMC-TC, an interesting detail particularly for small companies whose IT is often serviced by an external provider.

The basic version of the Basic Safe Compact sells for a recommended price of EUR 6,990. The compact data centre is available either from wholesalers or directly from Rittal.
