Moxa Debuts New EN50155 Switches with PoE for Rolling Stock Applications

06-Oct-2010

Moxa, a leading provider of industrial networking solutions, is pleased to release several new EN50155 compliant PoE switches: the ToughNet TN-5508-4PoE managed switches and TN-5308-4PoE unmanaged switches.

The PoE series is equipped with 4 IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE ports and provides connected devices with up to 15.4 watts of PoE power per port. The ability to transmit data and power over existing Ethernet cable reduces future maintenance costs and saves a great deal of money, especially for complicated train-wide systems. In addition, M12 connectors, strong EMI immunity, a -40 to 75°C operating temperature range make these switches especially suitable for harsh onboard train communication environments.

Power over Ethernet juices up security and surveillance applications
"Ever increasing demands for bandwidth is a constant in the networking world. Industrial Ethernet switches equipped with 10/100/1000 Mbps communications have clear advantages over field-bus based TCNs (Train Communication Networks) burdened with video and voice streaming data," said Leo Tsao, senior director of Moxa Power and Transportation division, "Ethernet is a future proof solution that can shoulder today and tomorrow's bandwidth requirements."  Moxa's ToughNet TN-5508-4PoE 8-port managed Ethernet switches provide up to 4 PoE ports to flexibly supply reliable DC power to network devices, such as IP surveillance cameras, emergency intercoms, and wireless access points. With PoE, no additional power cabling is needed, which makes network installation far simpler.

Configuring IP addresses with a Rotary Switch
Moxa's ToughNet switch TN-5500 series includes straightforward hardware-based IP address configuration to ease maintenance tasks and facilitate replacement of faulty devices. Three rotary switches can be used to set the last three digits of the IP address. The technician or on-board staff can just use a common screwdriver to set the digits to match that of the replaced device.
