Basler eXcite Family- A Merge of Baslers Excellent Digital Cameras Technology With A High Performance PC Place In A Single Small Housing

Basler eXcite family offers a single vision component for capturing and processing images based on your software application.

The 1.0 GHz performance provides the power for complex and high speed image processing. Combined this with 10 different camera sensor types the eXcite is well prepared for a wide range of applications fields With the various integrated communication interfaces the calculated result can be fed back directly. The small and rugged housing of the eXcite approved an integration on every locations.

Your benefit from Basler eXcite family include
quadrat:Open and flexible platform running on Linux
• GHz performance for your image processing applications
• Resolution from VGA to 2 megapixels, up to 12 bit data depths
• High speed grabbing up to 180 fps at VGA resolution
• Small and rugged housing
• Easy integration given by versatile interfaces like GigE, USB 2.0 and Digital IOs
• 100% quality checked and calibrated to give you consistent performance and reliability

Capturing
The eXcite covers the range form VGA resolution to 2.0 megapixels and up to 180 frames per second (fps). A separate microcontroller handles all internal camera functions including configuring and capturing. So a reliable operation is guaranteed independent of the processing load. Additional pre-processing live YUV color conversion is done by an FPGA. And of course, all of our standard camera features like an electronic full frame shutter, area of interest (AOI) scanning and real-time triggering are available on the eXcite.

Processing
For complex and high-speed image processing the core of the eXcite, a 64 Bit processor running on 1.0 GHz clock frequencies, provides you the required performance. The use of Linux as an operating system allows the hardware to run on a top level. Given by the full access to Linux you can adapt the camera in a wide range of application specific requirements.

Data Connection and System Integration
Given by the versatile interfaces of the eXcite a communication to the environment can be performed in many different ways: Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, serial RS232 and digital I/O ports, which are opto-isolated.

All eXcite models are in two different housing variants available. The Contact Plain variant focuses on machine vision applications, where sufficient heat dissipation can performed via a direct contact to production equipment. The eXcite housing variants with the integrated Heat Sink are focuses on tripod applications. In any cases the separate HW heat monitor will prevent a damage of the device by overheating.

A Power Supply and all required cables for an easy system integration are available from Basler. Optional a 6,5” Color Display in a slim aluminium housing is an accessory for service propose available. The data connection will be established via the USB 2.0 interface. (Bild: USB-Display)

Application Development
The eXcite Family serves as an open hardware platform for your SW application. To run the application on a best level of performance the processor hardware of the camera requires a recompilation of your C++ software. Compiler, Linker and Debugger of the GNU tool chain (see www.GNU.org), configured by Basler, forces this output. These software tools are integrated in Eclipse (see www.eclipse.org), Basler recommended graphical development environment for the eXcite.

The ‘eXcite SDK Tool Collection’ includes a DVD-based installation package for all tools as well, which simplifies your first steps with the eXcite.

To provide eXcite users support for the image processing development on a high level Basler offers optional a special version for HALCON. HALCON from MVTec is an extensive software library for industrial image processing. It provides more than 1150 operators with outstanding performance in applications such as blob analysis, morphology, pattern matching, metrology, 3D calibration, and binocular stereo vision, to name just a few.

The special version HALCON Embedded for eXcite is 100% compatible to the standard HALCON version and only available via Basler’s distribution channels.
