Provides Ethernet TCP/IP-based interfacing for PC or control networks.
Balluff’s BIS M Single-Head Processor
• Combines the BIS M’s fast, on the fly read/write capability with Ethernet TCP/IP networks. • Provides a PC-based implementation at a lower cost than other RFID systems. • Provides track and trace information to storage and retrieval systems. • Connects automation pallet build information to non-industrial networks. • Allows easier access to a database on a TCP/IP network.

Material Handling Application Many material handling systems today employ electronic track and trace systems like RFID and bar coding to make tracking part location and contents more accessible. The advantage of bar coding is cost, but the biggest disadvantage is the constant need to manually replace the printed bar code since the information cannot be re-written. The BIS M-407 processor can automate the re-writing process, but it can also be easily networked, unlike many bar code readers. Because the tags are significantly more durable, no changing or reprinting of tags is required which enables true track and trace capabilities.
Assembly Automation Application The biggest advantage of RFID in assembly automation is the ability to provide station-level tracking of part information on a pallet. With the BIS M-407 TCP/IP processor, this data can be accessed at a lower cost using PC-based control systems. Data tracking in the assembly process can significantly improve quality by tracking pass/fail and materials information at the station level. Depending on the type of assembly equipment, TCP/IP networking is the best option. With a lower-cost, single-head Ethernet processor, users have more flexibility to place read/write heads and keep access easier and less expense per point.
