National Instruments 987x serial modules add four RS232 or RS485 serial ports to NI CompactRIO systems. These C Series modules interface directly with the CompactRIO field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to offer extreme flexibility in communicating with serial devices. You can process serial data on board the FPGA through simple read-write nodes or send the data to the host controller through DMA transfers for serial port access from the real-time controller.
