DANFOSS - New Mini-Contactors Meet Future Safety Requirements

Smaller size, greater performance
Mini-contractors can often be found in automated doors, electrical saws, pumps and fans. They are also ideally suited to control small air-conditioning units, lighting and other building installations where space is an issue.

Built to comply with stringent IEC standards, the CI 5 range features enhanced safety, compact design and increased flexibility. Safety has also been a key concern behind this new generation of mini-contactors – so what new features help improve safety?

To conform with the IEC 60947-4-1 and IEC 60947-5-1 standards, the CI 5 range now features status feedback in the event of mechanically linked or mirror contact performance. And with a 6 mm safety gap between the accessible and live parts, the risk of shock to maintenance staff working on the equipment is significantly reduced. This safety gap is in line with the new IEC 60947-1 standard and complies with new dielectric voltage test requirements. So the CI 5 is not only safer, it’s also a future-proof investment.

Other user benefits include:

• Increased reliability: thanks to the extended DC coil range, the contactors work with extremely low and high voltage fluctuations (up to 30 percent) making them much more reliable
• Greater range: specially designed self-cleaning H-blocks have high contact reliability, enabling the contactors to be used down to 2mA 15V

Better product at a similar price
The CI 5 range is set to replace the existing CI 4 programme. To ensure customers experience a smooth transition, the new CI 5 mini-contactors do not require any panel redesign.

They are available with several contact ratings, a variety of auxiliary contact configurations and accessories such as front-mounted mechanical interlocks and pluggable surge compressor modules. The new CI 5 also includes dedicated bimetallic overload protection relays with a differential mechanism for sensitivity to phase-loss conditions.

With an extraordinary voltage rating of 690V, the new products cover the power range up to 5.5kW and will be in the same price bracket as the previous models.
