TURCK - An Answer to Every Potential Hazard

The SC22-3 Safety Controller of Turck partner Banner Engineering can process 22 inputs with three safety outputs.

Efficient personnel safety. The safety controller is now available for applications with a high hazard potential in addition to the basic emergency-stop switch, the dedicated safety relay and the systems which are connected with decentralized controllers. They form the link between an expensive but flexible PLC and the inexpensive and simple relay technology.
The protection of persons during their daily work is of uttermost importance. New and increasingly more sophisticated systems, which detect even the smallest fault and disconnect hazardous machine sections immediately are being used to ensure the required level of safety on machines and plants.

Previously users relied on tried and tested solutions that were mostly based on a redundant relay technology. There are, however, also alternatives. Applications required to ensure the safety of the operator at a machine must be provided with a reliable safety technology. To guarantee safe operation, these safety systems continually check the status of the machine. This kind of safety monitoring is divided in practice into four different levels.

Component systems
At the simplest level, a safety function can be implemented with an actuating device and a control device. For example, an emergency-stop button which opens the coil of a safety relay provides a simple safety function. Component systems are suitable for applications with a low hazard potential.

Dedicated systems with safety relays
Dedicated safety relays are used in specific applications. These systems use compact control modules that are designed for connecting general safety devices such as emergency-stop devices, guard gates, light curtains and safety mats.
