96-core Packetarium™ Network Platform Showcases at RSA 2010

28-Apr-2010

RSA Conference, San Francisco, 2010: Advantech's Network and Telecom Group today announced it will be showcasing its latest high-end Packetarium™ platforms for wire-speed packet processing in the exhibition area at the RSA Conference. The ground-breaking NCP-7560 is a 4U rackmountnetwork appliance, scalable from 12 to 96 cores based on the Cavium Networks OCTEON® Plus network processor.

The NCP-7560 represents the high performance end of Advantech's Packetarium product line. It integrates up to eight powerful, multi-core Packetarium network processing boards for wire speed packet processing, providing up to 80 Gbps throughput.

“In the Enterprise and Data Center markets, the NCP-7560 gives OEM's a very high bandwidth commercial-off-the-shelf platform available to customize and brand with their own intelligent switching and routing gear. The system is also targeted at OEMs andValue-Added Resellers (VARs) focusing on Traffic Management and Application Delivery Control as well as Network Security vendors requiring deeper levels of packet inspection like DPI” said Byron Lin, Director of Advantech's NPU product line.

The system can be scaled with up to eight vertically mounted Packetarium boards, each loaded with Cavium's 12-core OCTEON® Plus CN56/57XX network processor. Advantech indicated they are also developing an Octeon® II network processor board which will be sampling later in 2010. All the boards are linked by dual XAUI ports to a Broadcom BCM56820 10GbE switch on the carrier board. The 10 GbE switch also provides six front panel 10 GbE SFP+ ports and sixteen GbE SFP ports via a Broadcom BCM56512 GbE switch.

Two advanced mezzanine card slots connect to PCIe for add-on gateway capabilities and to an onboard SAS controller if SAS/SATA 2.5" storage is required. The carrier board incorporates an MPC8545 local processor for overall switch and system management, and provides two front panel 100 Mbps ports for remote management. Debug ports are also made available for development of custom or application specific hardware.

With wire speed packet processing capabilities over multiple GigE and 10 GigE ports, the NCP-7560 is ideally positioned for applicationsin service provider networks for enhanced security, in content-aware routing, in subscriber-based services and content-based billing.

The scalability of the NCP-7560 positions it with OEMs in wireless infrastructure applications requiring accelerated packet processing and encryption.

The NCP-7560 is available and shipping now. Software support is available for the CaviumSDK, Debian GNU/Linux, Wind River PNE LE, and 6WIND’s 6WINDgate.
