Danfoss sponsors conference during COP16 to accelerate climate solutions

Danfoss will engage actively in the largest business conference during COP16 to address the huge untapped potential of existing energy-efficient solutions. To that end, Danfoss is gold sponsor of the conference, called the World Climate Summit.

The World Climate Summit will take place in parallel with the UN’s next climate change conference, COP16, in Cancun, Mexico, from the 4-5 December. The conference will bring together the most influential leaders from businesses, governments and the financial world with the purpose of accelerating solutions to climate change.
Niels B. Christiansen, Danfoss President and CEO, says:
“Existing, well-proven technologies can already save billions of tons of CO2 – if only they were used to their full extent. The question is how we can exploit this huge potential. We believe part of the answer is more involvement with decision-makers to secure an adequate framework for energy-efficient technologies. In addition to this, we also think it is necessary to improve cooperation across sectors and industries to create integrated solutions.”
Fight climate change with well-proven technologies
Today, Danfoss has a broad range of technological solutions that save energy in buildings, industrial processes and food storage applications all over the world. Greater use of well-proven solutions like these could save billions of tons of CO2 and help fight climate change. To give an example, a frequency converter that controls electric motors saves half the energy in various applications. However only 8% of all today’s electric motors around the world are frequency controlled.
How to scale solutions to reach 2020 targets
The overall key focus at the World Climate Summit will be how to implement and scale solutions to help reach regional and global 2020 targets. Niels B. Christiansen will participate in panel discussions and workshops on energy efficiency to discuss how this can be achieved.
The World Climate Summit was officially launched at a reception in New York on 21 September. Participants included Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, and Dan Kammen, climate advisor to the Barack Obama administration.
