Danfoss Silicon Power moves to Flensburg to expand its production capacity

15-Nov-2010

Danfoss Silicon Power in Schleswig, Germany, is enjoying increasing sales and is growing out of its present facilities, despite the recent construction of a 600m² extension. Danfoss Silicon Power will therefore move to Flensburg in Germany in 2012 and plans to create another 200 jobs in its power module production by 2015. This is yet another step towards creating a power electronics center in the Danish/German border region.

In November 2010, Danfoss Silicon Power will start producing in its last clean-room facilities, over an area of 600m², which means that the present building of 4,500m² in Schleswig is now fully utilized. In order to be able to meet the increasing demand for power modules to 2015 and beyond, Danfoss Silicon Power will move to the previous Motorola building in Flensburg.

“This is a very positive story. Danfoss Silicon Power is in the middle of a rapid development. We have already set the course for the future demand for power modules and we are now expanding in Flensburg because it will also be possible to grow there under the same roof after 2015,” says Claus A. Petersen, Vice President Danfoss Customised Power Electronics and Chairman of the Board of Danfoss Silicon Power.

The new facilities include an 18,000m² area for production and logistics and 9,000m² of office space. Though the premises are modern and have already been used for the production of electronic devices, they have to be prepared for clean-room production in order to comply with the high TS16949 quality standards for power module production.

The move is to start in the second quarter of 2011 and will be completed by 2012. It involves 200 employees who are now working in Schleswig. Danfoss Silicon Power plans to create an additional 200 power electronics workplaces in Flensburg by 2015.

Danfoss Silicon Power is part of the Danfoss Power Electronics Division based in Graasten, Denmark, which has experienced significantly increased sales in all its business areas in 2010. The business areas include frequency converters, solar inverters and power modules.

“Danfoss is not only expanding its production capacity for power modules, but also for solar inverters, which will be produced in Nordborg, Denmark, in the future. Additionally we are expanding our competence center for frequency converters and solar inverters in Graasten. Together with Danfoss Silicon Power, which will now move to Flensburg, we are now establishing a power electronics center in the Danish/German border region,” says Kim Fausing, Chief Operations Officer.
