2007-09-03 - Contract makes ABB the largest supplier of traction transformers in France ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has signed a frame contract with Bombardier worth more than $30 million to supply traction transformers for 172 new trains that will upgrade commuter travel in the heavily congested Île-de-France region around Paris. The first order was booked in the second quarter of 2007, and builds on the long-term relationship between ABB and Bombardier. “This contract reaffirms our position as a reliable partner and supplier of choice for Bombardier Transportation,” said Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB’s Power Products division. “Our state-of-the-art transformer technology is a compact, lightweight and robust solution that complements Bombardier’s expertise in modern rail travel.”
Already the world’s leading supplier of traction transformers, this order makes ABB the top supplier in France as well. ABB’s compact units were chosen because a new wide-body carriage design and extra seating put severe restrictions on the size and weight of the transformers used.
