SICK founds subsidiary in Romania

Waldkirch/Timisoara – Sensor producer SICK has used the occasion of this year’s accession of Romania to the European Union, the heavy domestic demand there, and the growth expected in many sectors (and particularly machine and plant construction) to found its own subsidiary in Timisoara.

Before the new company started work, SICK AG used to supply the Romanian market via its Austrian subsidiary. With the newly founded S.C. SICK S.R.L., the company wants to be active nearer the market and participate in the current economic boom, as well as offer Romanian customers the SICK Group’s high-quality product expertise, application knowledge and after-sales service. SICK S.R.L. commenced activities on 2 September 2007 in Timisoara, in the region of Banat in western Romania. The high level of investments in the automotive industry and machine construction shows that an important market for industrial sensors is developing here.

SICK AG is one of the world’s leading producers of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial applications. The company, founded in 1946 and based in Waldkirch-im-Breisgau, currently employs over 4,300 personnel and achieved Group sales of EUR 646 m. in 2006. Further information on SICK can be obtained on the Internet at http://www.sick.com or by phone at +49 (0)7681 202-3873.
