Cognex ID Readers Selected for High-Volume Document Processing Application

Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX) announced today that a large international printing and direct mail fulfillment company has selected Cognex ID readers for its high-volume document processing operations in the United Kingdom. Cognex has already received two purchase orders totaling more than 310,000 euros (approximately $460,000) for this application, with additional purchase orders anticipated in the near future.

The customer will integrate Cognex In-Sight® ID readers into equipment that it uses to assemble direct mail documents for customers in financial services, healthcare, and other industries. These documents are produced at high speeds and typically contain multiple pages of personalized information. The Cognex ID readers identify each sheet as it is processed to ensure that all pages of the document are accounted for, that they are matched with the right inserts, and that they are inserted into the correct customer envelopes.

The Cognex In-Sight ID readers will replace existing bar code readers currently used in the customer’s document processing operations. The upgrade to the Cognex systems enables the customer to use high density two-dimensional codes (called “2D codes”) for automating document assembly. These 2D codes offer many advantages over the older 1-dimensional bar codes, such as reducing the amount of space required for the code, and the ability to encode more information in that smaller space.

In addition to integrating the Cognex In-Sight ID readers into its processing equipment, the customer will also use Cognex DataMan™ handheld ID readers for manual processing tasks.

“Assembling hundreds of thousands of pages of information and making certain that each set of pages goes to the right recipient requires an ID solution that operates reliably at very high speeds,” said Dr. Robert J. Shillman, Cognex’s Chairman and CEO. “Cognex ID readers offer the fastest read rates available today and are ideal for this type of demanding application where customers need total assurance of document integrity.”
