Modular Safety for More Flexibility in The Plant

With the Sirius 3RK3 modular safety system, Siemens Division Industry Automation offers a new safety solution, between a simple safety relay and a fail-safe controller. The 3RK3 safety system can be used in all sectors and applications in which several safety functions have to be evaluated but where it would be too costly to wire together several switching devices.

The modular design of the Sirius 3RK3 safety system enables users to save costs since they only have to replace those devices that are really necessary for the application. At the same time, they can add more functions to the device unit if the application changes. The core of the system is the central unit with eight safety-related inputs, one safety-related relay output, and one safety-related solid-state output. In addition, users can connect up to seven expansion modules that can read in and output further safety functions. A DP interface module enables communication with higher-level controllers via Profibus. With the help of the MSS ES parameterization software, a component part of the system, input and output signals are set and device functions are interconnected. The tedious wiring previously associated with this becomes a thing of the past, so time and costs are saved.
