Metso to Supply Combustion Optimization to Sweden’s Billerud AB

Billerud has ordered a combustion optimization package from Metso Automation for the bubbling fluidized bed biomass boiler at its Karlsborg pulp and paper mill. Designed to reduce the already low emissions even further, the combustion optimization will be integrated with the metsoDNA control system installed on the boiler in 2005. The optimization will achieve easier and more stable operation; improve combustion efficiency with minimized NOx and CO emissions, and keep selected process variables within acceptable limits. Factory acceptance tests have already taken place with delivery and start-up scheduled for summer 2008.

Billerud’s Karlsborg mill is an integrated pulp and paper mill situated in northeast Sweden on the Gulf of Botnia. The mill comprises a pulp line, paper machine, coating machine and a drying machine for market pulp. The biomass boiler was converted to bubbling fluidized bed technology in 2005 by, what is today, Metso Power.
