NUS FSAE Car Powered By NI Came In 22nd In World Varsity Competition In Michigan. |
In the Formula SAE annual inter-varsity competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers, undergraduate students design, build and race Formula-style (open-wheeled and open-cockpit) race cars. On 14th May 2008, thousands of university students and staff from all over the world came together for this annual competition held at Michigan International Speedway, United States of America.
The NUS FSAE Team with the Centennial 4 - a race car powered by NI. The National University of Singapore (NUS) FSAE team had ranked at 22nd position out of 121 teams worldwide in overall standings. In the individual events, NUS did Asia proud for being the highest ranking Asia team at 10th position for the Race Car Engineering Design category and 1st in the Race Car Marketing Presentation category, getting a score of 75 out of 75 points! NUS applies National Instruments technology in their car design. Applying LabVIEW as the backbone software, a complete virtual instrumentation system is established to produce an ECU System. From data acquisition to monitoring, analysis, decision making and real time control, all processes are realized with the application of NI Compact RIO and related modules to serve the purposes. The Graphical System Design framework has also been used to monitor the dynamic response of the FSAE car. Leveraging the power of virtual instrumentation, the monitoring system was easily designed and implemented. This provides an effective feedback system to illustrate the driver’s driving pattern and the corresponding response of the car. Formula SAE Final Overall Standings: National Instruments will like to congratulate the NUS FSAE team for a job well done!
