Advantech to Showcase Advanced Multi-core Networking Platforms at NXTcomm 2008

KL, Malaysia, July 2008, Advantech, the leading global manufacturer of customizable network application platforms will be presenting its new range of Intel® and Cavium-based multi-core products for network equipment providers at NXTcomm08 at booth SL1007 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. With a focus on multi-core technology, Advantech will showcase several new products ranging from dual-core processor appliances to network application platforms with as many as 32 processing cores.

These leading edge designs are destined for OEMs and fabless suppliers who need faster time-to-market platforms for their converged network applications. The platforms range from multi-GigE single-core desktop devices, to dual Intel® Xeon®-based Quad-Core appliances and dual 16-core Cavium OCTEONTM servers for applications such as 10-GigE Deep Packet Inspection.

Together with its ecosystem alliance partners, including 6WIND, Advantech will be demonstrating application-enabling software which is performance-tuned for execution on multi-core machines based on x86 or OCTEONTM technology. By working closely with selected software enablers, Advantech brings the expertise together to enable customers to benefit from an accelerated implementation of their multi-core solutions.

“For applications requiring greater scalability, we will also be showcasing both standard and customized products for AdvancedTCA, AdvancedMC and MicroTCA. In these areas we typically team up locally with customers to evaluate project requirements, share design knowledge, and develop optimized solutions together.” said Peter Marek, Blade Computing Division Director at Advantech.

Advantech’s Network Application Platform Division shares the same principles, and engineers x86 and network processors into customized tabletop, 1U and 2U platforms for the world's leading brands in Network Security and Communications.

As new multimedia services drive explosive new revenue growth, the use of open systems
internet-based technologies will dramatically reduce capital and operating costs. In addition, the new IP-based applications and services can all employ a common set of core technologies, which means they can also take advantage of Advantech’s platforms to handle firewall, anti-virus, intrusion detection/prevention, spam, and other applications to mitigate risk.

While Advantech’s dedicated application platforms target customizable, white-box requirements for cost effective large volume deployment, the AdvancedTCA, CompactPCI and MicroTCA blades offer a modular, open-standards approach. As MicroTCA is expected to bring greater economies of scale over time, it will become a key technology for hardware platform convergence by offering common re-usable Advanced Mezzanine Card technology on a wider scale.

“The combined blade and server-style product range provides a wider choice of topologies and technologies to designers of the next wave of Telecom, Networking and Security platforms. They place Advantech in a unique position at the forefront of products and services which will ensure timely deployment of fast and secure global communications” said Franz Wei, VP of Product Development at Advantech.

Advantech is leading the way in driving down the costs of MicroTCA ownership and will be previewing a cost-effective, modular MicroTCA-based IP-PBX at NXTcomm. The system was designed in partnership with Siemens and is one of the first MicroTCA systems to be shipping in high volumes. This underlines Advantech’s ability to engage world wide engineering, manufacturing and logistics resources for efficient and reliable global deployment.
