Addition to the family: Turck will present 2-wire cable and Namur compatible models of its magnetic field BIM-UNT sensors on the SPS/IPC/DRIVES fair in Nuremberg Turck now offers new magnetic field sensors for position detection on pneumatic cylinders. The sensor, fieldbus, interface and connector specialist extends the BIM-UNT family with 2-wire cable and Namur models that are particularly suitable for applications in hazardous areas. There are very few sensor suppliers that provide Namur sensors for installation in T-grooves like the Turck sensor. The BIM-UNT can detect all standard magnets in pneumatic cylinders safely and without multiple switching points, which makes stocking different sensor types redundant. The 2-wire cable version of the BIM-UNT is a reasonable alternative to the breakdown-prone electromagnetic reed contacts that are neither wear-free nor short-circuit-proof. Since 2-wire sensors are most commonly used in the automotive sector, Turck provided its design models with welding-proof cables. The inductive 2-wire technology is of special interest for machine engineers, who sell to Japan, France and the USA, as this type of sensor is mostly applied in these countries. All new BIM-UNT models – 2-wire cable and Namur – are available as pigtail or M12x1 versions with cable lengths of two and seven meters. With a total length of only 28 mm, the BIM-UNT is one of the most compact sensors currently available on the market. Having its active area directly at the end of the housing, the sensor guarantees for accurate piston rod detection up to the end positions – even on short stroke cylinders. The vibration-proof mounting close to the cable outlet keeps the sensors from lifting, if the cable is moved, and a clearly visible LED that reports the switching status provides additional adjustment and handling support. Turck provides an extensive accessory program for its BIM-UNT. Besides mounting accessories for other types of cylinders (like profile, tie rod, round or dove tail) the program includes clampable accessories for adjusting the switching point precisely, fixing accessories for recovering the switching point and cable mounting clips for running the cable securely.
