Year 2008 may not be fruitful year for the manufacturing and electronics industries as the world financial crisis is on the surface. However, this was not the situation for companies like Rittal Co Ltd, EPLAN Competence Center S.E.A, Phoenix Contact Co Ltd and ZI-Argus Co Ltd. These industry players wrapped up the year with a remarkable seminar for the Process Control Industry, entitled, “Protective Control Systems for the Heavy Industry Seminar”. Unveiling for the first time ever, this one day (1) seminar was held in Rayong, Thailand on 20th November 2008. The event drew a promising crowd of more than 100% turnout and attracted participants from various backgrounds, ranging from Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to Procurements and Constructions and Project Manager as well as the Maintenance Engineers. The seminar also witnesses participants from neighboring countries, namely Malaysia and Singapore. Mr. Jochen Lemke from Rittal Co Ltd began the day with the “Fundamental of Protective Control Systems”. Participants were given much information on the safety measures and rules pertaining to enclosures and preventive ways of handling enclosures in a highly hazarded environment.
The second session roared with the presentation from Mr. Anders Karlsson with the theme “Defining the Electrical & Process Control Standard Design”. Participants were exposed to EPLAN technology and the global standard in software and services for concepts for engineering design. This includes EPLAN Electric P8 – Setting the global standard in Electrical Control, Power & Design Engineering Software and EPLAN PPE – the Instrumentation & Control Design Software for Process Control & Automation Engineering Apart from products presentation, the day was also filled with product demonstration at the foyer of the seminar hall. Here, participants were given the opportunity to have a hands-on practice of the products, for example safety and interface relay and systems cabling under the guidance of the technical consultants. Participants were having a great time mingling with the consultants whilst enhancing their product and market knowledge.
The third round of seminar topic saw the presentation on SIL (Safety, Integrity, Level), Safety Relay and Safety Barrier by Mr. Norman Cheng from Phoenix Contact S.E.A Pte Ltd. The seminar ended with the presentation from Mr. Boonkit Thaveethermsakul from ZI-Argus Co Ltd on Integrated Process Control System on MOST and Safety net.
As an ending note, Mr. Jochen Lemke, Managing Director of Rittal Co Ltd extended his appreciation and gratitude to all participants, from both local and foreign countries and the organizing committee for their kind attendance and support to make the seminar a successful one. Special thanks also go to Mr. Jochen Lemke and Ms. Supathida, Managing Director and the Organizer of Rittal Co Ltd, Mr. Anders Karlsson, Consultant Professional Services International, EPLAN Competence Center S.E.A, Mr. Norman Cheng, Interface Product Manager of Phoenix Contact and last but not least, Mr. Boonkit Thaveethemsakul, Commercial Manager, ZI-Argus Co Ltd for their informative and interesting presentation which enhances the knowledge of all attending participants. To summed it up perfectly, this seminar obtained impressive feedback from all participants as they were exposed to healthy sharing of components and safety knowledge coupled with the latest revolution of Computer Aided Engineering Software. The Organizing Committee pledge to serve its customers best and will definitely organize the same seminar around South East Asia region to keep the Process Control Industry abreast of the latest happenings and developments for the years to come.
